MFW Bałtyk I cleared to connect up to 1560 MW to the national power system

MFW Bałtyk I, company developing an offshore wind farm with a capacity of 1560 MW, has signed with the PSE an agreement for the connection to the National Power System (KSE). The agreement brings closer the implementation of the project, which will be one of the largest within the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea.

"The connection agreement for the MFW Bałtyk I offshore wind farm means that Equinor and Polenergia have already secured energy transmission to the national power system for the entire portfolio of projects with a total capacity of up to 3,000 MW. The signed agreement with PSE is an important milestone for the MFW Bałtyk I project, because it gives us confidence that we are going in the right direction with our investment.” – says Eirik Strøm Uthaug, Project Director of MFW Bałtyk I in Equinor.

The agreement outlines, the investments on the part of MFW Bałtyk I and PSE, required to ensure the connection and power evacuation from the offshore wind farm project, as well as other terms and conditions of the grid connection, including those related to the acquisition of land by PSE for grid investments.

MFW Bałtyk I has a valid offshore location license in the area of the Middle Bank (pl. Ławica Środkowa), in the vicinity of the border of the Polish exclusive economic zone. A comprehensive pre-investment program of marine environment research for the purpose of environmental impact assessment of the MFW Bałtyk I offshore wind farm is currently being carried out. The decision on environmental conditions will be one of the key documents necessary for the execution of the MFW Bałtyk I project.
