Designing an offshore wind turbine is a complex process that begins with understanding the key parameters for a wind farm - environmental conditions such as wind speed, water depth and seabed type. A turbine consists of several main components: the tower, the rotor with blades, and the nacelle (where the generator and other key components are located). The design process must take into account the serviceability and maintenance of the turbine, as well as its environmental impact. It is important that the design can withstand extreme weather conditions and can operate effectively for many years. Competence in the areas of aerodynamics, mechanics, electronics, as well as environmental conditions are crucial in designing a turbine. Wind turbine manufacturers create their own turbine designs, but many times they support themselves with professional external services in the area of research, design or analysis.

The production of an offshore wind turbine includes the preparation of its three key parts: the nacelle, rotor and tower. The nacelle contains components like the main plate, main bearing, main shaft, gearbox, generator, power output system and control and control systems. Inside the nacelle there are also auxiliary systems like brakes, cooling, and fire protection components. The rotor consists of blades made of composite materials, main casting, blade bearings and blade rotation systems. The tower, on which the rotor nacelle is placed, is made of welded steel on specialized production lines and includes various additional components such as ladders, cables, lighting. Offshore wind energy production takes place in a very demanding environment, so each individual component, as well as the system composed of them, must be particularly robust and safe.

The basic scenario includes provision of a WTG Installation Vessel (WTIV), which is chartered on a time charter basis.

The selected supplier will perform the following activities:

  • Supply of WTG installation vessel
  • Receiving WTG components onto vessel WTG staging port
  • Transport WTG components to installation site
  • Ensure safe jacking operation
  • Ensure safe marine operations for the installation vessel receiving the WTG components, and ensure a safe work area for WTG installation work performed by WTG supplier
