Polish companies intend to join the supply chain for offshore wind farms. A Supplier Day was held in Gdańsk
Representatives of Polish companies discussed project requirements, logistics and transportation, as well as sought-after competencies for the construction of offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 during the Supplier Day organized by Equinor and Polenergia. The event, which brought together dozens of domestic companies, was an opportunity to establish contacts with major suppliers of offshore wind turbine foundations and transition pieces.
- The development of offshore wind creates a unique opportunity for Polish companies to enter the global supply chain. Together with Polenergia, we work intensively with the Tier 1 suppliers to engage in direct dialogue and support local companies in this process. We intend to ensure the greatest possible participation of local content in the Bałtyk projects. We are very glad to see such a high attendance of domestic companies at the Supplier Day. It confirms that Polish firms intend to take an active part in the construction of offshore wind farms and to contribute to the deployment in these large-scale infrastructural projects which are among the biggest in Polish history – says Andrzej Popadiuk, Stakeholder Manager, Equinor Poland.
The last edition of the Supplier Day this year took place on November 25, 2024 at the Gdańsk Entrepreneurship Incubator STARTER. It was organized with the participation of Sif Group, Smulders Project Poland and Heerema Marine Contractors. These companies will be responsible for the production, transportation and installation of foundations for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, and it is in this scope that they are looking for partners among Polish companies.
- In the projects implemented in the offshore wind segment, we focus on local content on a practical level. Polish companies are already included in the supply chain, however we continuously strive to maximize their participation in the process of construction and, in the long run, operation of offshore wind farms, for the benefit of the development of the domestic industry - says Krzysztof Wedeł, Deputy Director of the Offshore Wind Farms Department at Polenergia Group.
During the meeting the current status of the Bałtyk projects, safety standards and technical requirements, logistical, transportation, and environmental aspects of the projects were presented. Participating companies were informed about a detailed schedule of the investments and how to apply as potential suppliers of components and providers of services for the Bałtyk 2 and 3 wind farms. A significant part of the agenda was allocated for individual B2B sessions, during which local companies met directly with representatives of Sif Group, Smulders and Heerema Marine Contractors, to talk in detail about expectations and requirements regarding specific purchasing packages within the Bałtyk projects.
The November edition of the Supplier Day was yet another event of this series of meetings promoting local content, organized by Equinor and Polenergia. In September, domestic companies had the opportunity to meet with Seaway7, Jan De Nul and Hellenic Cables to discuss prospects for cooperation in the supply and installation of internal and export cables, and earlier with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy – the main supplier of turbines for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, as well as Hitachi Energy, which is responsible for the electrical system infrastructures for both offshore farms.
