Educational Workbook “Bałtyk. The Sea of Green Energy” – Discover the Power of Wind with the Bałtyk Projects!
How can we show students that energy can flow directly from nature — and that wind energy from the sea could power even 4 million households? The answer is the new educational workbook prepared by Polenergia Group and Equinor. It was created for primary school teachers who want to introduce their students to the fascinating world of the energy of the future — offshore wind energy. The project aims to bring students closer to the topic, show the role of Pomerania in its development and encourage young people to explore professions linked to this modern industry.
The workbook “Bałtyk. The Sea of Green Energy” continues the initiative carried out by Polenergia Group and Equinor in 2023 and 2024. The companies organized workshops about offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea for children from 11 primary schools in the municipalities of Redzikowo, Ustka, and Łeba. The original educational project “One Sea, Many Benefits. Offshore Wind Energy in My Region” now returns in a new form — as free educational materials designed to support primary school teachers in teaching about offshore wind energy.
Why is it worth exploring the workbook?
It is a comprehensive resource that supports the Polish national curriculum in the areas of nature and environmental education. The workbook consists of 6 lesson plans — two for each of the three primary school groups: grades I–III, IV–VI, VII–VIII.
The content was developed in collaboration between specialists in education and offshore wind energy. It includes information on: principles of wind turbine operation, environmental impact of offshore wind farms, economic, environmental, and social benefits, the importance of these farms for Poland’s energy transition.
The descriptive sections and exercises were designed according to the principle of learning by experience, encouraging students to observe, experiment, and discuss. Students can take on roles as young explorers, engineers, and environmental experts, together searching for answers to a central question: How can we create a sustainable future?
The publication connects scientific and technical knowledge with practical examples and interesting facts from the world of energy. The lesson plans include various forms of activity — from discussions and puzzles to experiments and group tasks. This way, pupils not only gain knowledge but also become more aware of how energy is produced and used in everyday life and in the future.
Designed for Teachers and Students
Each lesson plan includes: lesson objectives and expected learning outcomes, a list of materials needed, student worksheets, group activity suggestions. Short educational videos complement the topics — from turbine operation to electricity generation from wind.
Teachers receive supplementary information that forms a knowledge base of key concepts related to offshore wind energy, giving them ready-to-use tools for engaging lessons that combine learning with fun and curiosity about the world.
The content is presented in a manner suited to age and aligned with modern educational methodology. Each scenario introduces new concepts step by step. Younger students learn about wind energy through simple experiments, observation, and conversations about how wind is formed, what happens on offshore wind farms, and how the energy reaches our homes. Older students gain a broader context — understanding how offshore wind energy affects the economy, environment, and the future job market. The workbook can inspire career choices, showing how many modern professions connect with the development of the offshore wind energy sector — from engineering and technology to logistics and environmental science.
Broader Context and Additional Materials
The workbook is not just a collection of lesson plans — it’s a resource that stimulates imagination, builds ecological awareness, and demonstrates that the energy of the future can be clean, safe, and created with respect for the environment.
It’s a proposition for schools that wish to introduce renewable energy topics in an engaging way, showing that offshore wind energy is not a distant technology but a real part of Poland’s future — an area in which young people can already start developing their interests and skills.
Additional materials — lesson plans, user guides, and downloadable resources — are available on the dedicated website.
This initiative forms part of the Marine Competence Academy program, through which Equinor and Polenergia Group engage in developing education on offshore wind energy. These activities aim to raise awareness of renewable energy, job opportunities in the offshore sector, and the importance of training qualified professionals. The inspiration behind the workbook comes from Polenergia Group’s long-term project — Play Green with Us®.
