Bałtyk 1 Awarded CfD in Poland’s First Offshore Wind Auction

The Bałtyk 1 project – developed by a 50/50 joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia – have successfully secured a contract for difference (CfD) in Poland's first-ever offshore wind auction. This marks a milestone for the country’s energy transition and highlights the growing role of offshore wind in Poland’s future energy mix.

The success of the auction marks an important step in sustaining the pace of Poland’s energy transition toward green energy. Dominika Kulczyk, the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Polenergia, has long supported Poland’s energy transformation through advocacy for renewable energy sources.

Clean and sustainable energy in Polish homes, serving Polish families, is our future. Bałtyk 1 is poised to become the largest renewable energy investment project in Poland. For me personally, this brings great joy and satisfaction, because I understand that the Earth’s gifts are finite, and we are entrusted with the responsibility to use them wisely. Already today, we are delivering two major projects in the Baltic Sea, which form the cornerstone of our offshore wind program. But Bałtyk 1 is something more – it is a step that fundamentally changes the scale of what is possible and opens an entirely new chapter, both for Polenergia and for the future of the Polish energy sector. – says Dominika Kulczyk, the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Polenergia.

– We congratulate the Polish government and all institutions involved on the successful execution of this landmark auction. Winning the auction confirms the competitiveness and strong preparation behind Bałtyk 1. It also underscores the importance of offshore wind in delivering Poland’s climate and energy goals. With this awarded CfD, we are pleased to have the opportunity to further advance Bałtyk 1 toward a potential final investment decision in the future. As with all our projects, our priority will be to ensure optimal  value creation,” says Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, Equinor Country Manager Poland

With a planned capacity of up to 1.56 GW, Bałtyk 1 has the potential to be the largest offshore wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea region. Located about 80 kilometers north of Łeba, Bałtyk 1 could generate enough renewable electricity to power over two million Polish households annually once operational.

Bałtyk 2 and 3 are under full-scale construction, with a combined capacity of 1.44 GW. The two offshore wind projects reached Final Investment Decision and Financial Close earlier in May this year. First power is expected in 2027 and full commercial operation in 2028. Once operational, these projects will supply renewables energy to around two million Polish households. The windfarms will be serviced by a dedicated operations and maintenance base in Łeba for approximately 30 years.
