Construction of the Offshore Wind Service Base in Łeba Recognized for Outstanding Safety

The construction of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Base in Łeba, carried out for Equinor Poland, has been distinguished by the Regional Labour Inspectorate in Gdańsk with an award for the safest construction site in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The base will support the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms — a joint venture between the Norwegian company Equinor and Poland’s largest privately owned energy group, Polenergia — throughout their 30 years of operation.

The award ceremony for the “Build Safely” competition took place during a formal gala hosted by the Regional Labour Inspectorate in Gdańsk, further highlighting the significance of this recognition within the construction industry. The project will now compete at the national level in the next stage of the competition organized by the National Labour Inspectorate.

The investment is being developed for Equinor Poland by the general contractor Erbud S.A. The award confirms that safety is a fundamental priority at every stage — from design and construction to execution. It is the result of the collective efforts of many teams: the investor, joint venture partners, general contractor, subcontractors, inspectors, and all individuals involved in the project.

The construction of the base recently reached an important milestone — the topping out ceremony, marking the completion of the main structural works. The facility is now being fitted out, with completion scheduled for mid-next year.

Once operational, the base will employ several dozen specialists responsible for servicing the offshore wind farms. It will also serve as the home port for vessels transporting technician crews to offshore operations. The base consists of two buildings: an office facility and a warehouse.

The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, jointly developed by Equinor and Polenergia, will have a combined capacity of 1,440 MW. This will provide green energy to more than 2 million households in Poland and significantly support the country’s energy transition. The first electricity from the farms is expected to be delivered in 2027, with commercial operations beginning in 2028.
