Equinor and Polenergia with important contract for seabed protection for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects
Equinor and Polenergia have signed another important contract for offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3. The contract is for subsea rock installation and it was concluded with the Dutch company Van Oord. The Bałtyk offshore wind farms are one of the largest infrastructure projects in Poland's history.
– The contract will secure the foundations of wind turbines and offshore substations as well as routes of the inter-array cables and those connecting Bałtyk 2 and 3 wind farms to the Polish power grid. This will protect the underwater infrastructure against erosion processes and aims to prevent damage to the cables – says Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, Country Manager of Equinor Polska.
The signed contract regulates the procurement, transportation and protection of the seabed, involving the precise placement of stones to protect cables and foundations.
– Every day and every contract bring us closer to realizing offshore projects in the Baltic Sea. The contract just signed will ensure that important elements of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms will be secured on the seabed so that energy can flow to more than 2 million households. We have yet to make a final investment decision for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. This will give us the green light to start construction of these farms – says Adam Purwin, CEO of Polenergia S.A.

Equinor and Polenergia are developing three offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea with a total capacity of up to 3 GW, which will be able to power 4 million households in Poland with green energy. The first phase of development is to include the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, consisting of 100 turbines of 14.4 MW each. The first energy from them is expected to flow into the grid in 2027, and the commercial phase of use will begin in 2028.
