Compensation for fishermen: second call for applications open until September 30 

As part of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farm projects, the second call for applications is underway for fishermen eligible under the compensation system. Eligible owners of commercial fishing vessels have until September 30 this year to complete the formalities and submit an application for compensation for 2026. 

A year ago, Equinor and Polenergia launched the first application round under the temporary compensation system for owners of fishing vessel. This system is intended to support fishermen whose fishing activities may be restricted due to the construction of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms and the grid connection infrastructure.  

As part of the first call, which ran from September 2025 to June 2026, compensation was awarded to nearly 165 applicants. The call covered both recreational vessel owners, who, according to the assumptions, could receive a one-time compensation payment, and commercial vessel owners, who may apply for compensation in each year of the construction period of the wind farms. 

In January 2026, the second call for applications was launched, covering compensation payments for the current year. This call remains open until 30 September. In this case, owners of commercial fishing vessels are eligible to receive support:  

• conducted fishing activities between 2018 and 2024 in the area of fishing squares: L5, L6, L7, L8, M7, M8, N7  

or 

• are registered and stationed in the ports of Jarosławiec, Ustka, Rowy or Łeba, even if they do not have a documented fishing history in the above-mentioned areas. 

A prerequisite for applying for compensation is holding a special fishing permit for the year covered by the compensation mechanism. 

Calls for applications are conducted annually according to  the schedule and cover the construction period of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, i.e. the years 2025-2028.
