Equinor and Polenergia sign contracts for the foundations of the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms

Equinor and Polenergia have signed final agreements with the supplier of foundations for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. The Dutch company SIF Netherlands B.V. will produce 100 monopiles for both projects. Monopiles are key components necessary for the implementation of investments of strategic importance for the Polish energy transition.

The subject of the contracts is 100 monopile foundations for wind turbines, 50 pieces for each of the projects. Their production is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2025.

The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms are becoming a reality. Most of the major contracts for both projects have already been secured. This is a huge acceleration in the implementation of our offshore investments and a very important positive signal for our investors. We have already planned to launch 100 wind towers in 2027. Today, we are taking a very important step towards making these plans a reality. We have one common goal - taking advantage of the great potential of renewable energy that lies in our country. The Baltic Projects will make it happen, providing green energy to millions of Polish households. This is yet another proof that Polenergia is today the most dynamically developing energy group in Poland, says Michał Michalski, PhD, President of the Management Board of Polenergia S.A.

Once all structural elements have been contracted, the necessary permits have been obtained and the final investment decision has been made, the implementation phase of the Baltic II and Baltic III projects will begin. Two wind farms with a total capacity of 1440 MW will be located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, at a distance of approx. 37 and 22 km from the coastline.

The signing of the final contract for the production of foundations for our Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 wind farms brings us closer to the moment of making the final investment decision. The wind farms planned for 2027 will be among the first in the Polish sea. Their launch will be of key importance for national energy security, providing stable renewable energy for more than 2 million households in Poland, says Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, President of the Management Board of Equinor in Poland.

SIF Netherlands B.V. has global experience in supplying components for offshore wind farms. The agreement with the company is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. The first energy from the Bałtyk II and III wind farms is expected to flow in 2027. The commercial stage of their use is planned for 2028.

In the next phase of offshore wind energy development in Poland, Equinor and Polenergia are developing the Bałtyk I project. An offshore wind farm with a capacity of up to 1560 MW will be located approximately 80 km from the shore. The projects carried out jointly by Equinor and Polenergia are a very important part of the Polish energy transition.
